How the calculation works
mcg = mg × 1,000
A worked example
A 0.5 mg amount equals 500 mcg. Multiply 1 mg by 1,000 to get 1,000 mcg; 5 mg equals 5,000 mcg.
Reading supplement labels
This direction is useful when a product uses milligrams while your reference label uses micrograms. Keep decimal places intact: 0.1 mg and 1 mg differ by a factor of ten, even before you convert them.

Common questions
How do I convert mg to mcg?
Take the amount in mg and multiply it by 1,000. The result is the same mass expressed in mcg.
Are mcg and µg the same unit?
Yes. Both mean micrograms. One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms, and one gram equals 1,000 milligrams.
Can I use this to convert IU?
No. International Units measure biological activity and depend on the nutrient. Use the vitamin D converter for vitamin D; its factor does not apply to vitamin A or E.
