How the calculation works
mg = mcg ÷ 1,000
A worked example
A label listing 1,000 mcg contains 1 mg of that ingredient. A 500 mcg amount is 0.5 mg, and 5,000 mcg is 5 mg.
Reading supplement labels
B12, biotin and folate labels often use micrograms. Converting to milligrams helps compare two labels, but only compare the same nutrient and chemical form. A larger number in mcg does not automatically mean a stronger product.

Common questions
How do I convert mcg to mg?
Take the amount in mcg and divide it by 1,000. The result is the same mass expressed in mg.
Are mcg and µg the same unit?
Yes. Both mean micrograms. One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms, and one gram equals 1,000 milligrams.
Can I use this to convert IU?
No. International Units measure biological activity and depend on the nutrient. Use the vitamin D converter for vitamin D; its factor does not apply to vitamin A or E.
