A worked example
5,000 mg equals 5 g. A capsule labelled 750 mg contains 0.75 g of the stated ingredient; four such capsules contain 3 g in total.
Reading supplement labels
Converting capsule amounts to grams can make a capsule-to-powder comparison easier. Check whether the amount on the label is per capsule or per serving, especially when one serving contains several capsules.

Common questions
How do I convert mg to g?
Take the amount in mg and divide it by 1,000. The result is the same mass expressed in g.
Are mcg and µg the same unit?
Yes. Both mean micrograms. One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms, and one gram equals 1,000 milligrams.
Can I use this to convert IU?
No. International Units measure biological activity and depend on the nutrient. Use the vitamin D converter for vitamin D; its factor does not apply to vitamin A or E.
